To ensure public safety and maintain law and order on Holi on Friday, the Chandigarh Police will deploy around 1,300 personnel across the city, put up 64 nakas and 16 drunk-driving checkpoints.
According to officials, 10 senior officers, 43 SHOs/Inspectors, and a large contingent of law enforcement personnel will be on duty.
“Special attention will be given to curbing hooliganism, reckless driving, and crimes against women. The Geri Route from Sector 11/12 to Sector 10 Market has been designated as a ‘limited vehicle zone’ to control movement and prevent traffic-related chaos,” said the police.
To maintain law and order, 64 internal checkpoints (nakas) will be set up across the city, and all police personnel will be on the ground from 8 am. Special deployments will be made at markets, in colonies, girls’ hostels, malls, and other crowded areas to ensure public safety, the police said.
On the traffic front, strict enforcement will be in place to tackle violations. As many as 16 drunk-driving checkpoints and 19 special traffic checkpoints will be set up, with 235 traffic police officials managing city traffic. In addition to issuing challans, vehicles involved in serious violations may also be impounded.
The police official added that women police officers will be deployed in areas near girls’ hostels and PG accommodations for enhanced security. Noise pollution violations will result in fines, imprisonment, or seizure of sound systems.

Police Commissioner Rakesh Arya has ordered strict action against modified bullet bikes that produce loud firecracker-like noises, causing panic in the area. He also instructed traffic police to take firm action against those violating traffic rules, including driving under the influence of alcohol.
To maintain order, all PCR (Police Control Room) vans, riders, and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have been directed to immediately respond to any reports of public disorder. Additionally, special police units have been deployed at markets, malls, and other public places to ensure safety.

Also, 35 checkpoints (nakas) have been set up, including 16 special nakas equipped with alco-sensors to catch drunken drivers. A total of 29 riders, 18 emergency response vehicles (ERVs), and 25 quick response teams (QRTs) will be patrolling continuously, keeping an eye on potential troublemakers.
