The Chandigarh police tightened its noose around Saji Mohan, former Zonal Director of Narcotics Control Bureau,on Monday by adding Section 13(1) (Prevention of Corruption Act) to his list of offences.
Mohan has already been booked on charges of embezzling Rs 13.31 lakh from the Narcotics Control Bureau.
Inspector General of Police Shanti Kumar Jain said a team from the Economic Offences Wing, comprising investigating office DSP Baljit Singh Chadha and two other officers, would go to Mumbai to seek Saji Mohans production remand soon. We plan to send the team after Mohan is remanded in judicial custody. We want to quiz him regarding the missing case property, he added.
The police have also written to the Anti-Terrorism Squad in Mumbai asking for a detailed report pertaining to Mohans alleged nexus and police officers in Chandigarh. No such name has emerged from the investigations yet, added Jain.
On the possibility of the case being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for investigation,he said: That is the Administrations decision. But this is not a complicated investigation and the Chandigarh police is quite capable of probing such acts, added Jain.
