Congress councillor Subhash Chawla on Wednesday questioned the mayor and commissioner as to why the decision of reopening the two parking lots – Sahib Singh and Empire Store – was not taken before the Finance and Contract Committee.
The committee had earlier ordered the closure of the same.
Chawla added that if the committee has nothing to do and decisions were to be taken ‘independently’, then the F and CC may be dissolved.
Talking to the Chandigarh Newsline, Chawla said: “ It is alright if the parking lots were to be re-opened, but why was the declaration not done by the F and CC, which decided the closure. Why was it declared outside and what work did BJP chief have at official ceremony of re-opening when it is the decision of MC.”
Chawla added: “It clearly means that the BJP chief is interfering in the decisions of MC.”
It was also raised in the Finance and Contract Committee meeting that the minutes of the previous meeting did not make any mention of the voting on the closure of parking. The traders had alleged that Mayor Arun Sood who had promised to support them backed out and was in favour of the closure of the parking lot.
