Day after HC verdict, Chandigarh admn decides to hold mayoral polls on January 30
The order also mentioned that councillor Ramneek Singh Bedi will act as presiding authority for the elections. “I… nominate Ramneek Singh Bedi, councillor as presiding authority for the meeting to be held on January 30 for election to the post of mayor,” it added.
The high court ordered that the mayoral elections be held after January 29. A day after the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s decision on deferral, the deputy commissioner on Tuesday scheduled the Chandigarh Mayoral polls for January 30. Earlier the elections for the post of mayor, deputy mayor and senior deputy mayor were scheduled for January 24, against which the AAP filed a petition. The plea by Mayor Kuldeep Kumar of the AAP sought to allow him to continue until February 20, in a bid to give him a full one-year run.
“In pursuance to the order pronounced by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the order is being passed,” the order issued by Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav said.
