Newly elected Chandigarh Mayor Harpreet Babla of the BJP said Thursday that her priority is to address the financial crisis of the municipal corporation as she hit out at the outgoing Mayor Kuldeep Kumar of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Speaking to The Indian Express shortly after her win, Harpreet Babla, 60, said, “Everyone has witnessed the failure of the Aam Aadmi Party mayor, who has done nothing for the city. My first priority is to get the municipal corporation back on track. Once we address its financial crisis, everything will fall into place.”

“I will work collaboratively with everyone and do my best to resolve the city’s issues,” said Harpreet Babla, who won by a margin of two votes against the AAP-Congress alliance candidate Prem Lata, despite the ruling combine having the majority in the general house of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. While Harpreet Babla got 19 votes, Prem Lata got 17 votes.
