Chandigarh inch closer to Markan Trophy title

A fine half-century by Vineet Dhaka (70 not out) put Chandigarh into driver’s seat against Mohali on the second day of the last league match of the ML Markan Trophy,that is being played at the Yadavindra Public School,Mohali. After restricting Mohali to 222 in their first innings,Chandigarh were 227 for 6 at the end of the first day’s play and are now on the verge of winning the trophy on the basis of first innings’ lead.

Chandigarh were precariously placed when they lost five of their top batsmen for just 107 runs on the board. Vineet Dhaka and Vaibhav Kaushik then stitched together a partnership of 78 runs to stable the innings before Kaushik departed after contributing 38 runs off 65 balls. Dhaka played a valiant unbeaten knock of 70 runs off 136 balls and smashed 11 boundaries during his knock. At the end of the day’s play,Chandigarh had earned a vital first innings’ lead of three runs. For Mohali,Amish Sidhu claimed three wickets for 69 runs while Harpreet Singh claimed two wickets for 82 runs.

Jalandhar in control

Centuries by Rajat Sharma (166) and Sahil Lal (144) placed Jalandhar into a commanding position with a first innings’ mammoth total of 508 runs in 145.2 overs against Ropar in a league match held at Jalandhar. The duo was involved in mammoth 262-run partnership for the second wicket and helped Jalandhar put up a massive total on the board. Sharma hammered 166 runs off 111 balls that was laced with 26 boundaries while Sahil Lal scored 144 runs off 179 balls,hitting 26 boundaries during his knock. Chirag Bawa was the other main scorer with a superb knock of 47 runs. For Ropar,Rishab claimed seven wickets for 186 runs. At the end of the day’s play,Ropar were 139 for 5 in 51 overs. Abhishek played a defiant knock of 71 runs off 123 balls. For Jalandhar,Mohit and Karan claimed two wickets each.

Patiala register massive win

In the third match of the day played at Patiala,hosts Patiala scored an innings and 66-run win over Ludhiana. After posting a total of 430 for 6 in their first innings,Patiala first restricted Ludhiana to 115 runs in their first innings before bundling them out again for 149 in their second innings. In the first innings,Mayank Markanda claimed three wickets for 37 while Gurtek Singh claimed two wickets for eight runs for Patiala. In the second innings,Gurtek Singh claimed six wickets for 50 runs for the winning team.
