For the benefit of allottees, the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) has decided to accept duplicate certificates for processing transfer cases. At present, CHB requires original death and other certificates of the allottee or the legal heir of the deceased for processing the transfer cases.
CHB Chairman Maninder Singh says that it has come to their notice that in some cases only one copy of the original death certificate is available with the applicant. Similarly, in case of other documents which are required in original, the applicant has only one copy of the document, which may be required by the applicant for some other purposes. On persistent demand of the general public, it has been decided to accept duplicate certificates.
The accounts officers have been authorised to compare and verify the contents of the photocopies of the original documents. After verification, the original document shall be returned to the applicant on the same day. The applicant will have to pay a fee of Rs 1,000 per document for availing this service.
The accounts officers concerned will be responsible for any variation in the contents of the photocopies of the documents.
