In a first-of-its-kind initiative, designer flower pots were installed along the railings at the Sector 15 market Tuesday.
Councillor Saurabh Joshi said that the market would be the first ‘green market’ of the city and the concept had been taken from Hong Kong. More than 150 varieties of flowers such as petunia, dianthus, ornamental kale, marigold and phlox hybrid have been planted.
Municipal Commissioner Baldeo Purushartha and Chief Engineer Mukesh Anand were the chief guests on the occasion.
Mukesh Anand said, “I went to Hong Kong on an official trip and found this concept on almost every site. The pots were looking beautiful and we thought of implementing the same here.”

Councillor Saurabh Joshi said, “We usually see that beautification of any spot in the city doesn’t stay for long as the citizens are not always available to take care of the same. However, these flower pots will be taken care of by the respective shopkeepers and hence the beautification will stay intact.”
