Chandigarh batsmen came up with impressive batting performances as they beat Ludhiana on the basis of first innings lead in the inter-academy matches played at Guru Nanak Public School Ground in Sector 36 on Saturday.

Ludhiana,batting first,were finally out for 127 in 51.1 overs. In reply,Chandigarh scored 160 for 6 in 56 overs. Saksham and Ayush Sikka scored identical 46 runs each. Tavleen remained unbeaten on 39 runs. Vaibhav Kalra was the most successful bowler for Ludhiana with 3 for 41. Meanwhile,the match between Mohali and Jalandhar ended without first innings being completed after the first day’s play was washed out. Mohali batted first and declared their innings at 187 for 8 in 56.3 overs. Apramdeep top scored with 42 runs. Madhav Sharma grabbed four wickets for Jalandhar. In reply,Jalandhar were 59 for 1 in 11 overs when the stumps were drawn. Azam Nazar top scored with 40 runs. At Dhruv Pandove Stadium in Patiala,the match between Amritsar and Patiala ended in a draw. Both logged a point each. Amritsar were all out for 131 in 59.3 overs in their first innings. Lakshay top scored with 67 runs. For Patiala,Tejpreet took four wickets. In reply,Patiala declared their innings at 198 for 4 in 43.1 overs. Prabhsimran Singh top scored with 75 runs while Jashanjot chipped in with 66 runs. Amritsar,in their second innings,were 143 for 3 in 34 overs. Arjun Pappal top scored with unbeaten 69.

Menon helps Marriott win

CHANDIGARH: Abhilash Menon smashed a 58-ball 93 to steer JW Marriott to an easy 33-run win over Bharti Airtel in the CII Corporate Cup held at DAV School in Sector 8 on Saturday. Batting first,JW Marriott scored 168 for 7 in 20 overs. Menon’s knock was studded with ten boundaries and three sixes. In reply,Airtel were restricted to 135 for 8 in 20 overs. In another match,Chandigarh Police crushed Food Corporation of India by seven wickets. FCI batted first and scored 151 for 6 in 20 overs. Kulwinder top scored with 50 runs. In reply,Chandigarh Police achieved the target in 16.3 overs with seven wickets in hand. Satnaam top scored with 60 runs. Meanwhile,Kudos Chemie defeated Tata Motors by four wickets. Batting first,Tata Motors could only manage 100 for nine in 20 overs. In reply,Kudos achieved the target in 18 overs for the loss of six wickets. In the last match,Competent Synergies beat IMTECH by four wickets. Batting first,IMTECH were all out for 122 in 20 overs. Competent Solutions reached the target in 18.3 overs for the loss of six wickets.

CCA select 18 women probables

CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh Cricket Association,affiliated to Punjab Cricket Association,have selected probables for the women district u-19 cricket team that will take part in the inter district tournament organised by PCA starting from June 16. The selected players should report to coach RP Singh and Shailla jain (manager) on June 10 at 4:30 pm at Gunu Nanak Public School,Sector 36. The probables are Tanaya Bhatia,Manisha,Priyanka,Himanshi,Monika,Nandani,Preeti,Reena,Parvez,Rajani,Akriti,Divya,Annu,Shivani,Mansha,Manasvani,Dolly and Soniya.

Neel overcomes Harshdeep

MOHALI: Neel Singh overcame a resilient Harshdeep and defeated him 7-5 in a pulsating first round match in boy’s u-12 category in the Total Tennis Championship held at Manav Mangal School in Mohali on Saturday. Neel,who is the favourite in this category to win the title,faced some challenge from Harshdeep but eventually defeated him to surge ahead. In another match,Manvir Singh outplayed Chunu 6-2 in a lop-sided encounter. Sarabjot Singh also registered an easy 6-2 win over Manik.

Cricket tourney commences

CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh Cricket Association,affiliated to Haryana Cricket Association,is organising Chaudhry Bansi Lal Memorial u-16 cricket tournament from June 8 to 15 at Government Model Senior Secondary School Ground in Sector 19,Chandigarh. The participating teams are Chandigarh Cricket Association (Haryana),Rohtak Cricket Association (Rohtak) and Faridabad Cricket Association (Faridabad). Each team will play two matches with the other two teams and the top two teams will qualify for the final. The matches are of 50 overs each.

Fencing Nationals from June 24

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Fencing Association and Punjabi University,Patiala,under the auspices of Fencing Association of India,will organise the 5th National Fencing Federation Cup (Late Arun Kumar Vij Memorial Trophy) for men and women at Multipurpose Indoor hall,Punjabi University,Patiala,from June 24 to 26. A total of 300 fenders and officials from all over India will take part in the event. The teams participating in the event are Services Sports Control Boards,Shashtra Seema Bal,AP,Assam,Bihar,Chandigarh,Delhi,Punjab,J&K,Himachal Pradesh,Manipur,Karnataka,Kerala,M.P.,Chhattisgarh,Pondicherry,Tamilnadu,Uttrakhand,Maharashtra,Haryana & Uttar Pradesh as they have qualified in the men & women section for this championship on the basis of their performance in the Senior National Fencing Championship held at Rohtak (Haryana) in February earlier this year. The last date of sending entry is June 15 and one should get in touch with Narinder Kumar,Office Secretary,Punjab Fencing Association.
