CITY RESIDENTS continued to gasp for breath as the air quality index in Chandigarh recorded “poor” level on Wednesday.
Throughout the day on Wednesday, the air quality index at the Sector 25 monitoring station was recorded between 248 and 272 micrograms per cubic metre.
At this air quality index, prolonged exposure causes respiratory illness.
After rain showers on November 7 and 8, the air quality index has reached the satisfactory level with air quality index just 83 micrograms per cubic metre.
Officials of the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee said that it is not just due to stubble burning but also because people burst crackers on the occasion of Gurpurab.
