THE ENDOCRINOLOGY Unit of the Department of Pediatrics, PGIMER, Chandigarh, organised a “Type 1 Diabetes Education Day” to commemorate the World Diabetes Day which falls on November 14.
The event was held in the auditorium of Advanced Pediatrics Center. About 50 families of children with Type 1 Diabetes attended the event.
Professor Devi Dayal, incharge of Endocrinology and Diabetes services in APC, introduced the theme of this year’s event which is “Families and Diabetes” and laid emphasis on the concerted efforts of all stakeholders in diabetes, especially parents to bring about a change in the lives of children with diabetes. This was followed by a talk by Dr Jaivinder Yadav on the day-to-day management of Type 1 Diabetes with special attention on help provided to these children by their schools.
There were sessions on needle use, newer insulin, pen devices, newer modalities of insulin delivery and glucose monitoring, and nutritional management of Type 1 Diabetes. “All the sessions were interactive and parents and children actively participated in the proceedings,” a release by the PGIMER stated.
