CCTV footage fails to reveal identity of accused in bank locker theft case

The police is now suspecting that the theft might have taken place about three months ago when the victim had deposited his valuables.

Even after scrutinising CCTV footage of the last 45 days,Chandigarh Police has failed to identify the accused who allegedly stole gold jewellery from a locker in a Sector 22 bank. The police is now suspecting that the theft might have taken place about three months ago when the victim had deposited his valuables.

A few days ago,a resident of Sector 23 had alleged that an unidentified person stole gold jewellery from his locker in a Sector 22 bank, where he had deposited valuables. Estimated to be worth Rs 15 lakh, the valuables were found to be missing after an employee of the bank noticed the door of the locker was open.

Around three months ago,the victim,Mahesh Chandra had visited the bank where he availed the facility of a locker to deposit jewellery. On November 9,a bank employee, opening an adjacent locker, noticed that the door of Chandra’s locker was open.

Initially, the police had suspected that the door might have not been closed properly, taking advantage of which, someone stole the valuables. Though there are no CCTV cameras around the lockers, the police retrieved CCTV footage from cameras at other locations in the bank.
