The special CBI court on Monday dismissed the bail application moved by Naveen Sharma,Sub-Inspector (SI),who had been allegedly caught,along with a middleman,taking an illegal gratification of five lakh rupees.
Naveen Sharma,Sub-Inspector with the Chandigarh police,posted at the Economic Offences Wing (EOW),was caught red handed on September 6,2012. Along with him,the middleman,Som Nath Aneja,was caught at Sector 46.
The complainant in the case,Sukhbir Singh Shergill,a resident of Ropar,had alleged that the Economic Offences Wing,Chandigarh,had registered a false case FIR on the basis of forged documents and impersonation,cheating and extortion against him and his wife.
Sukhbir Singh Shergill had then laid a trap against the Sub-Inspector Naveen Sharma and the middleman Som Nath Aneja.
In the event,Shergill called both the Sub-Inspector and the middleman Aneja at 1 am to give them Rs 5 lakh and sort out the case.
There both where were caught by the CBI officials taking the money. Later,on investigation,the CBI,in a trap case,had recovered Rs 10 lakh from the SIs house and 41 bottles of foreign whisky.
Sharma is at present behind bars and had sought bail from the court.
