Case registered against accused in DAV clash

All the youngsters managed to escape after the college security reached the spot.

A case of attempt to murder,rioting and voluntarily causing hurt has been slapped against several unidentified persons accused in the clash among students at DAV College in Sector 10 on Thursday. The case has been registered at the Sector 3 police station.

The incident took place on Thursday when former Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) president Manpreet Singh came to the college to deposit his brother’s fee with his friend Daljeet Singh,also a SOPU member. Soon after they reached the fee counter,a group of around 12 youngsters attacked them with sharp-edged steel rods. All the youngsters managed to escape after the college security reached the spot.

The police has not been able to identify all the accused,but the FIR lodged by Manpreet Singh mentions the name of two Hindustan Student Association (HSA) members – Sunny and Jeetu. According to police,all the accused were HSA members who attacked the SOPU leaders because of rivalry.

Both Manpreet and Daljeet have been admitted to the Government Multi Specialty Hospital,Sector 16,where they are being treated for critical head injuries.

The incident has exposed security lapses in the college owing to the alleged involvement of outsiders and the fact that they carried weapons.

Principal B C Josan said,“We have decided to regulate entry of outsiders and also issued notices that no trespassers will be allowed in the college without permission.”
