In yet another case of suspected card cloning from an SBI account,a librarian at Panjab University has reported loss of Rs 1 lakh from his account. He discovered that his account was left with only Rs 118 when he went to an ATM to withdraw money on Monday.
When I approached the SBI branch at PU,I was told that the entire money from my account had been withdrawn from an ATM in Bombay over two days. The amount was withdrawn in two instalments of Rs 15,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively and eight instalments of Rs 10,000 each on August 24 and 25, said Raj Kumar, the complainant.
Raj said that he used the ATM card the last time around middle of August at a petrol pump in Sector 21.
He said that the bank directed him to lodge a police complaint which he did at the public window at Sector 9 police station on Tuesday, from where it would be forwarded to the cyber crime cell.
Bank officials at the local head office maintain that they are waiting for complaints to reach them to initiate an action.
We have not received any complaint,so there is nothing that the bank can do and it is for the police to investigate. We can provide the CCTV camera footage on receipt of a complaint, said Akshay Mehra,Assistant General Manager (PR and Community Services Banking) at SBI.
