Tributes were paid to Captain Rohit Kaushal at his memorial in his ancestral village Jalauli,district Panchkula on Monday. Capt Kaushal laid down his life 18 years ago while fighting militants in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.

“My son always wanted to be an army officer and was very committed to serve the nation. Whenever we talked about his marriage,his answer was that he is already married to his unit,” Veena Kaushal,mother of Capt. Rohit Kaushal said.

SS Kaushal,Captian’s father said,“I am a proud father. My son gave his life for the nation.” Officers and Jawans from 18 Punjab Battalion,12 Rashtriya Riffles and 102 TA Battalion attended. A guard of honour was presented by the Jawans of 18 Punjab Battalion,to which Captain Kaushal belonged. “He was a brave officer,stories of his bravery often narrated in our battalion,” Sohan Lal,Jawan from 18 Punjab Battalion said.

A wreath laying ceremony was held. General VP Malik,former Chief of Army Staff was the first to lay wreath at the martyr’s memorial. He was followed by General AS Rathore from Western Command. Panchkula MLA DK Bansal,Mayor Upinder Ahluwalia and deputy commissioner SH Phulia,Col. Naresh,secretary Zila Sainik Board and ADC to Governor Haryana Major Anand attended.
