The statement added that hundreds of families from villages of Sanghera,Fatehgarh Chhanna and Dhaula in Barnala had to protest against the acquisition of 376 acres of land when Capt Amarinder Singh was the chief minister.

They added that on the other hand,in case of acquisition for thermal power plant in Mansa district, around 90 per cent of the farmers had willingly agreed to sell the land at a rate many times higher than the market rate and only a handful of families had resisted. They were now being exploited by the Congress with an eye on the forthcoming Assembly elections, the statement said. Saying that two farmers had been killed during the Barnala agitation, scores injured and hundreds put behind bars, the statement added that the Akali Dal government that had settled the Trident issue.
