The City Beautiful is geared up for one of the most-eagerly awaited festivals of the year Holi. While party organisers have special offers for women and families, the markets of the Tricity are full of colourful water tanks. ‘Angry bird’ pichkaris and colour ‘pichkus’ have been a hit among children.
Amidst a growing demand for herbal and skin-friendly colours, the concept of ‘eco-friendly’ Holi is gaining popularity among residents. Despite being double the price of synthetic ones, most residents prefer herbal colours.
Almost every year we get complaints from customers regarding skin problems caused by the synthetic colours. Although, they are costlier than the chemical ones, the herbal colours of superior quality are in demand, this year, said Varinder Singh,a shopowner in Sector 15-B.
The theme of ‘eco- friendly’ Holi is also being adopted by most Holi party organisers, who have special offers for women. There will be separate galleries where only female participants will be allowed to play Holi. We will also be organising a ‘multani mud party’ where women will play Holi with multani mud, which is good for the skin, said Jaskaran Singh,a member of the organising team of Holi Blast that will be held at Exhibition Ground,Sector 34-A.
The markets in the Tricity are full of new arrivals, especially those meant for children, along with the latest ‘Angry Bird’ pichkaris and water tanks.
Water guns and pichkaris with cartoon characters like Spiderman,Ben 10,Doraemon,Nobita and Tom and Jerry have always been a hit among children, but this year, there is a lot of demand for Angry Bird pichkaris ,said Pawan Bansal,a shopowner in Palika Bazaar,Sector 19.
