Budget promise kept,7 new trains to roll into city

Railway: Frequency of two trains increased,two trains extended; city residents get link to religious places

The new train timetable of the Northern Railways released on Friday has brought cheer for the city residents. As many as seven new trains will ply from the Chandigarh Railway Station in the coming weeks. Moreover,the frequency of two trains has been increased,while routes of two trains have been extended to Chandigarh. Though the timings of the trains have been decided,the date of introduction is undecided.

The trains had been announced in the Railway Budget 2013-14. Some of the trains will start from or terminate at Chandigarh,while others will pass through the city. Most of the trains will link the city residents to religious places.

Another Superfast Express Train will ply between Chandigarh and Amritsar. At present,there is one train between the two stations,but there was demand for another one. It will ply daily. After the inauguration of the Chandigarh-Ludhiana rail link,the journey has also become shorter.

The train will depart from Chandigarh at 7.30 am and reach Amritsar at 11.55 am. It will leave from Amritsar at 2.05 pm and arrive in Chandigarh at 6.30 pm. The train will stop at SAS Nagar,Ludhiana,Jalandhar and Beas.

One of the trains that has been added to the schedule is the Kalka-Shirdi Express. It will be a bi-weekly train. It will depart from Kalka on Thursdays and Saturdays at 7 pm and reach Shirdi the next day at 12.30 pm. While it will depart from Shirdi on Saturdays and Tuesdays at 9.25 am and arrive at Kalka at 10.15 pm.

A bi-weekly express train between Kalka and Katra has also been added to the schedule. The train will depart from Kalka on Tuesdays and Fridays at 7 pm and arrive at Katra the next day at 7.50 am. It will leave from Katra on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9.30 pm and arrive at Kalka at 4.45 am.

Both the trains will have 17 coaches each,including an AC 2 tier,two AC 3 tier,six sleeper class,six general class and two second class-cum-luggage van/ disabled friendly second class-cum-luggage van.

The Superfast Express between Nangal Dam and Hazur Sahib Nanded will be a weekly train that will stop at Chandigarh. It will depart from Nangal Dam on Thursdays and from Nanded on Saturdays. Apart from Chandigarh it will stop at SAS Nagar.

Another bi-weekly express train will be introduced between Patliputra and Chandigarh. It will depart from Chandigarh on Thursdays and Mondays at 9.30 pm and arrive at Patliputra at 5.55 pm. It will leave Patliputra on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 8.30 pm and arrive in Chandigarh the next day at 8:45 pm. It will have 17 coaches.

A weekly express train will be introduced between Indore and Chandigarh. The train will depart from Chandigarh on Thursdays at 6.25 am and arrive in Indore on 4.40 am. It will leave Indore on Wednesdays at 3.30 am and arrive in Chandigarh on 5.15 am. The train will have 22 coaches.

Another weekly AC express train will be introduced between Amritsar and Lalkuan. It will pas through Chandigarh and ply on Wednesdays.

The frequency of two trains from the city has been increased. The Kochuveli-Chandigarh train will now depart from Chandigarh on Wednesdays and Fridays. The Madurai-Dehradun/Chandigarh Express will also ply twice a week.
