You may soon see 32-year-old Shravan Kumar,a labourer who lost his leg, wife and daughter in the Sector-20 wall collapse in July 2008,running a pre-paid mobile PCO. For,telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has decided to donate a booth to the labourer to enable him to earn a livelihood for himself and his two sons. The pre-paid mobile booth is an adapted tricycle with an attached PCO.
We came to know about Shravans plight through newspapers and the department decided to help him out, said Divisional Engineer,Planning,Chandigarh BSNL,Jatinder Mahajan.
On March 3,after Newsline reported Shravans predicament, the Panchkula administration forwarded his case to the Haryana Revenue Department to be dealt under special provisions of the Natural Calamities Act,2001.
BSNLs offer comes at an opportune time for Shravan as with the model code of conduct in force before the Lok Sabha elections, the administration had said the process of approval may take time.
To avoid overlapping,we have withdrawn Shravans case from the Social Welfare department and strongly recommended his case to the Haryana Revenue department for consideration. But the final decision is likely to come after the elections. The file for the reimbursement of his medical bills is also pending for the same reason, said Panchkula Deputy Commissioner Rajender Kataria.
