The British Library,Chandigarh,is organising Dickens 2012 to celebrate the bicentenary of Charles Dickens, one of the most celebrated and influential English novelists. The celebrations coincide with the 12th anniversary of the library in the city. To mark the occasion, the library is holding various competitions.
As part of the celebrations, the library organised a Fancy Dress Competition on May 9 for children aged between 7 and 12. The children were expected to say a few words about the character being portrayed. Around 60 students from various schools participated in the event.
The library has lined up a host of reader-friendly plans in order to make the place more fun-filled and interactive than just a station for borrowing books and magazines. The library will be organising an essay-writing competition on May 11,a book cover design competition on May 14 and is also holding a take-home quiz competition on Charles Dickens.
The last date for submitting entries for the quiz is May 12,and all competitions are open to both members and non-members of the library. The aim of the celebrations and the competitions is to celebrate the life and literature of Dickens while also increasing awareness about the novelist.
