Briefly State: ‘Probe selling of drugs in Bathinda central jail’

Punjab Jails,Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur on Monday ordered an enquiry into the incident of selling drugs to prisoners in connivance with jail inmates in Bathinda Central Jail.

Chandigarh: Punjab Jails,Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur on Monday ordered an enquiry into the incident of selling drugs to prisoners in connivance with jail inmates in Bathinda Central Jail. Nachattar Singh,warden of the jail,was caught red-handed and a case under NDPS Act has been registered. “The nexus between drug peddlers and jail authorities will be broken,” he said.

Workshop before transit of Venus

JALANDHAR: The Pushpa Gujral Science City will be organising a workshop pertaining to the ‘Transit of Venus’ (passing of Venus in front of Sun’s disk) which will take place on June 6. Dr R S Khandpur,director general of Science City said that a three-day orientation workshop on ‘Transit of Venus’ will be organised from May 9 to 11. The first recorded observation of the transit of Venus was by British priest,Jeremiah Horrocks in 1639. The next transit of Venus will take place in 2117 and 2125.
