Shimla: Himachal Pradesh government,on Wednesday,ordered the transfers of five district Superintendents of Police (SPs) and posted R M Sharma to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) CID (Intelligence) ahead of the state assembly elections. Abhishek Dular,SP (Kullu) has been transferred to SP (Mandi),while Ashok Kumar SP (Kinnaur) will replace Dular at Kullu. Veena Bharti,ASP (Shimla) will be the new SP of Kinnaur. Brij Mohan Sharma,AIGP (Police HQ) Shimla has been shifted to CID (Narcotics wings). Puneeta Bhardwaj SP (Sirmaur) has been transferred to SP CID (Crime),Shimla and Vinod Kumar Dhawan SP CID (Narcotics),Shimla has been posted as AIGP (Police HQ),Shimla. Rameshwar Singh Thakur SP CID (Crime),Shimla has been transferred and posted as SP (Sirmaur),and Suneel Kumar SP CID (Security) will become SP (Lahaul & Spiti) to swap places with Bimal Gupta.
R P Singh takes over as SJVNL chairman
Shimla: RP Singh,on Wednesday,took over as chairman-cum-managing director of the public sector Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL). A spokesman of the power company said that Singh had been holding the additional charge since March,2011. The SJVNL is a joint venture PSU owned by the Centre and Himachal government. It has commissioned a 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri project,the largest hydro-electric project in the country. The highly profitable company is building hydro-electric projects in Himachal,Uttarakhand and Nepal.
Subsidised power tillers launched
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister,Prem Kumar Dhumal,on Wednesday,launched subsidised power operated tillers,cultivators,grass-cutters and crop-cutters for the farmers of the state besides flagging off an exhibition van demonstrating modern machinery in different parts of the state. He also hailed HIMFED,a cooperative body, for launching unique and quality farming equipments and implements to mechanise farming activities.
Bio-nanotechnology faculty at IIT Mandi
Shimla: The Indian Institute of Technology,Mandi,will be starting a faculty in Bio-nanotechnology to match the world standard in professional education from the next academic session. This was revealed to Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal by IIT Director professor Timothy A Gonsalves. Dhumal described IIT Mandi as the countrys emerging institution of world repute.
Dhumal gets Mother Teresa award
Shimla: Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal has been conferred the Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Award for 2012,by renowned Mother Teresa International Award Committee,Kolkata,in recognition of the services he has rendered to the people of the state. The organisation has conferred awards on various Prime Ministers of different countries and other important government officials and private citizens.
Army tries to attract youth with mela
Ludhiana: To motivate the youth and attract them to a career in the Army,the Artillery Brigade,stationed at Faridkot,held a Know Your Army fair,on Wednesday. This fair was attended by students,who were shown modern tanks,guns and ultra modern weapons possessed by the Indian Army. The army paratroopers also performed a sky-diving show for the young audience. Brigadier Rakesh Sharma said,The Army needs the brave and young boys and girls of Punjab and this state,which is known for is bravery,has never shirked from fighting on the front lines and protecting the borders of the nation.
10-year-old crushed by auto
Jalandhar: A 10-year-old died when his school auto,in which he was travelling,run him over after being getting hit by a Tata Ace vehicle in Adarash Nagar,on Wednesday afternoon. According to information,the school auto was carrying the children when a Tata Ace vehicle hit it on its side,hurling the victim,Rahul,out of the auto,which proceeded to crush him. The driver of the Tata Ace is absconding.
Shimla Bar gets Rs 2 lakh from Virbhadra
Shimla: The President of the Shimla Bar Association S S Deshta said that they have received a grant of Rs 2 lakh from Union Minister for Micro,Small and Medium Enterprises Virbhadra Singh for upgradation and computerisation of the library. Rajan Kahol and Rajesh Thakur,vice-president and general secretary of the Bar said that the funding would go a long way into help the Bar and its members.
Two officials suspended in Himachal
Shimla: Two Himachal Pradesh Civil Supplies Corporation officers have been placed under suspension for their alleged involvement in the multi-crore pulse scam. The PSUs general manager Ashok Kumar and procurement officer Ram Lal have been placed under suspension, said Food and Civil Supplies Minister Romesh Dhawala. The suspensions have been ordered on the basis of a preliminary inquiry conducted by senior officer Man Singh,who has submitted an interim report which has detected irregularities in the procurement of pulses by the corporation, he said.
Dhumal talks about revival of water wells
Shimla: Chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Wednesday stressed the need for preservation and revival of traditional water sources like khatris small water wells beneath rocky mountains. Dhumal,who was watching the screening of short film Khatariyan produced by noted writer and literary figure Rajendra Rajan shot in Bamson area of Hamirpur district,said the government has initiated a scheme for revival of such wells and use the water for drinking as well as irrigation purposes.
