New Delhi: The Centre has requested Himachal Pradesh to maintain status quo on Annadale Ground till an alternative land is identified where the Indian Army can conduct training exercise. The land was taken on lease from the state government in 1955 for 10 years which was subsequently extended upto 1982. Though the lease was not formally extended from 1982,lease rentals have been paid to the state government upto 2006,Defence Minister A K Antony told the House.
Three die of suspected food poisoning
CHANDIGARH: Three farm labourers died of suspected food poisoning on Monday while four others have been admitted to the Sonepat Civil Hospital in a critical state. According to the police,the seven farm labourers had allegedly consumed contaminated food at Jahri village near Sonepat on Sunday night,after which,they complained of severe stomach pain and nausea. All seven reached hospital,where,three died while the condition of four others is critical. The deceased have been identified as Dinesh Pal (25),Babloo Paswan (18) and Guttan aka Gatar (25) – all residents of Bihar. The post mortem examination was conducted by a board of doctors,after which the bodies were handed over to the victims kin. Their viscera,however,has been sent for chemical examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. We are investigating the matter,as the source of the meals,which were consumed by the persons is yet to be ascertained. Those critically ill are not fit to make any statements yet. Once we discover the source of the contaminated meal,we will question the person who cooked it and then proceed further in the matter, one of the investigating officials said.
