CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday asked the the Director General of Police (DGP),Punjab to explain the police inaction in arresting the culprits who allegedly raped and brutally murdered a minor girl. The DGP has been asked to appear in court and file an affidavit on July 16. In November 2009 a 16-year-old girl was abducted from Jalandhar. Later her half-burnt body was found on the outskirts of the city. Her mother Manjit Kaur had moved the High Court seeking handing over of the investigation to some official above the SP rank or to a woman IPS officer. The petitioner alleged that despite having constituted five special investigation teams ,the Punjab Police has been unable to identify and arrest the culprits.
Woman held for stepsons murder
JALANDHAR: Jalandhar Rural police on Monday arrested a woman on charges of getting her stepson killed after he wrote her a letter saying he knew about her illicit relationship with a person in Kartapur area. The police also arrested Sandips paramour Mohd Ikrar and a Saharanpur resident,Anil for killing Amandeep. The victims body was recovered from a farm in Kartarpur on June 6. Police said that Amandeep was a drug addict and Ikrar,promising to give him drugs,took him to the fields where he and Anil attacked him with sharp edged weapons.
2 suspected BKI terrorists get bail
New Delhi: Two suspected terrorists,Sarabpreet and Narendra Singh alias Raju,of banned outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) were on Monday granted bail by a Delhi court. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav granted bail to the duo arrested for their alleged roles in two separate cases. Sarabpreet was arrested by the Special Cell from North Delhi area allegedly for plotting to eliminate Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim. Raju was arrested on March 19 from the IGI airport while he was going to meet BKI chief in Germany.
Implement IFMS system: Dhindsa
Chandigarh: The Punjab government on Monday issued instructions to all departments to implement Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS). Finance Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa,in a release,said the budgetary statistics relating to all departments have been uploaded on the IFMS application. He said every head of the department has been asked to check the budget of the concerned department on the IFM System.
Man tries to shoot prisoner,gun jams
JALANDHAR: The local court complex here witnessed high drama after a accused in a kidnapping case out on parole tried to shoot a person serving term in cheating cases but failed as the trigger of his country-made revolver jammed. Kuldeep Keepa was overpowered by head constable Gurdeep Singh after he pulled the trigger twice while pointing the revolver at Gurvinder Singh Samra,who was brought to the court complex for a hearing in a cheating case. Keepa later said he wanted to teach Samra a leson for lodging false complaints against him in the jail where they both are lodged.
