Following a breach at the banks of the Sutlej river on Wednesday morning, villages around Khera Bet near Hambran were put on high alert.
The timely action of administration and villagers saved the villages from floods and reconstruction of the bundh started.
Deputy Commissioner Rajat Aggarwal, Police Commissioner Paramraj Singh Umranangal and DCP Narinder Bhargav along with other officials reached the spot.
Aggarwal said people had planted poplar trees which led to breach in the bundh of the river.
