It has been 12 days since 17-year-old state lever boxer Megha died in a road accident after an SUV rammed into the motorbike on which Megha was riding pillion. Yet,neither has the offending vehicle been traced,nor have there been any arrests till now by the Chandigarh Police.
On June 17 at around 1.30 in the afternoon,Megha was riding pillion on a motorbike when a speeding SUV knocked the class XII student down. Megha was riding on a newly-bought motorbike with her teenaged cousin Gaurav Kumar.
The accident took place on Monday on the dividing road of Sectors 29-30. The Hoshiarpur-based girl breathed her last in the wee hours of the next day.
Earlier,the investigating officer of the case,Sub Inspector Devinder Pal had said,“All we have got to know is that it was a Mahindra XUV. We do not even know the registration number. Neither the injured nor the passerby were able to note down the number.”
Claiming that information about an accident was received at around 2.54 pm on Monday,the police had stated,“As per an enquiry (conducted to look into allegations of delay) and record of GMCH-32,Chandigarh,it is found that all the injured were admitted by the Interceptor Gypsy No. CH01G1-6149 Zullu-5 Incharge SI Satyaveer Singh of traffic staff at 3.08 pm”.
When contacted on Saturday (12 days after the incident),Narinder Patial,station house officer of the Industrial Area police station said,“There have not been any arrests yet in the case. We are in the course of conducting search and interrogation.”
