In 2006,microblogging site Twitter changed the way we connected to Bollywood celebrities. It got us closer to them and had us “follow’’ them all the time. As we approach the end of 2011,the bond seems to be getting better. Facebook has just launched its first official Bollywood page and Yahoo, its first Bollywood video destination. This,as well as YouTube’s ‘BoxOffice’ is buzzing day in and day out.

“The Hindi film fraternity is connecting with its huge fan base through a variety of platforms and Internet seems to be topping the charts. Besides, since India has the most number of Bollywood fans and the number of Facebook users exceeds 25 million,we thought the website would be an effective medium to get Bollywood celebrities to bond,” said Kevin D Souza,Country Growth Manger,Facebook, explaining the logic behind the launch of ‘Bollywood on Facebook’ page — an official outlet for exclusive updates from the stars.

To be managed by Hungama India, the page will keep the fans updated on the latest about Bollywood personalities. Besides,it also includes videos of film trailers, music videos and live chats with the stars. “The initiative is integrated with Facebook pages of actors such as Shah Rukh Khan,Aamir Khan and Priyanka Chopra, and filmmakers such as Farah Khan and Farhan Akhtar. Now,we plan to partner with more celebrities and promote exclusive content,” said Souza, adding that more than 41,000 people have already “liked” the page. “We want to encourage two-way conversation and authentic interactions through the page,” he said.

Meanwhile,Yahoo! has launched Yahoo!Movieplex — a video destination that allows users to enjoy licensed full-length movies for free, through Internet on demand. “It offers premium, licensed and original content through robust partnerships and allows the consumer to experience movies online in a clutter-free environment. Presently,we have access to over 3,000 movies in seven languages,” said Nitin Mathur,Senior Director Marketing,Yahoo! India.
