The city residents were forced to bear the heat after Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) forced a shutdown for conducting repairs. There was a blackout in many sectors with people going without electricity for around three hours in the evening.

PSPCL effected the shutdown to repair a 66 KV conductor of Mohali. This affected the electricity supply in most of the southern sectors. Due to the power cuts, water supply in some areas was also hit with the tubewells not functioning.

The residents lamented that there was no prior intimation about the power cut. With the temperature having touched 41 degrees on Wednesday, the residents were left at the receiving end. “There should be some intimation about the power shutdown in advance. This would enable us to be prepared and plan our activities accordingly,” said a resident.
