Senior BJP leaders on Saturday indicated that the party will get four ministerial berths in the state cabinet likely to be formed on 14th March.
Addressing a press conference in Jalandhar,Kamal Sharma, the state general secretary, who was flanked by Bhagat Chuni Lal,the newly elected leader of the BJP legislators in the Punjab Assembly, said there will be four ministers from BJP in the new Punjab cabinet. BJP has long and tested relations with the SAD,and their party wont go after numbers, said Sharma. The BJP general secretary added that the names of those chosen for the ministerial berths have already been sent to Delhi.
The BJP had six ministers in the last cabinet after it won a record 19 seats. The party, however, has only 13 MLAs this time around.
On the loss of 7 seats in these polls as compared to the last elections,Sharma said it was wrong to say that the BJP had not done well and termed the partys performance in Punjab as satisfactory.
Sharma also there was no pressure from the BJP on the deputy chief minister issue. He added that it was the prerogative of Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal to announce his deputy and the BJP had nothing to say as it was an internal matter of the SAD.
