Senior BJP leaders Wednesday termed the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh helpless even after being in power for three years and announced to corner it on the issue of deteriorating law and order during the winter session in Dharamshala on December 1.

Former chief minister and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jai Ram Thakur said that the BJP will hold a protest and gheroa the Vidhan Sabha at Dharamshala on December 1. The winter session will start on November 26 and conclude on December 5 at Tapovan in Dharamshala.

Addressing a women’s rally at Hamirpur, Thakur said, “The law and order situation in Himachal Pradesh has completely collapsed under the Congress government. Within just one month, two shocking incidents in Hamirpur have shaken the entire state. In one case, a young man brutally attacked and killed a woman who was like a mother to him. In another incident last month, a youth murdered his own mother. These crimes reflect a frightening state of affairs.”

Thakur said that the drug menace, once confined to border areas, has now spread to every corner of the state. “Unprecedented crimes are being reported, and the mafia is operating freely — even in the Chief Minister’s own district and constituency. The BJP would gherao the Vidhan Sabha on December 1 to demand accountability from the government over the deteriorating law and order situation.” Thakur said that the current state government is running on false guarantees.
Later, Thakur along with MLA Ashish Sharma of Hamirpur, former MLA Rajinder Rana of Sujanpur visited Sasan village to meet the family members of the woman who lost her life in a recent brutal attack by a juvenile. Thakur expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and became visibly emotional while meeting the woman’s differently abled son, Golu. Thakur said the incident was extremely tragic and heartbreaking. “Golu is an innocent and specially abled child. His mother was his only support in life, but now she too has been taken away in this horrific incident. It is a deeply emotional and speechless moment,” he said.

Thakur appreciated local MLA Ashish Sharma for extending financial assistance to the family. Sharma has announced that he will continue to provide Rs 3,000 per month to support Golu’s care and upbringing. “The government must ensure that the family is fully satisfied with the inquiry and subsequent action,” he added.

BJP state president Dr Rajiv Bindal said that the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh appears “helpless” even after completing three years in power.

In a statement issued in Shimla, Dr Bindal said that despite being in office for three years, the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and ministers continue to “chant the same tune” — targeting the Bharatiya Janata Party — instead of delivering on governance. “The government has not launched a single public welfare scheme during its tenure. The health sector, being of utmost importance, has suffered heavily after the closure of the Himcare scheme which benefited lakhs of people,” Bindal said.
