While the SAD-BJP alliance celebrates its victory, the cold fact is that the BJPs scorecard from Malwa region is disappointing. BJP candidates won just one out of seven seats in the region as opposed to five of six the last time.
Surjit Kumar Jayani (Fazilka) is the BJPs only winning candidate and that too with a narrow margin of 1,600 votes. The partys Abohar candidate,Vijay Lakshmi Badhoo, lost her security deposit.
BJP leaders are taking stock of this loss to avoid a repeat. The party had fielded Parveen Bansal from Ludhiana North,Satpal Gosain from Ludhiana Central, former BJP state president Rajinder Bhandari from Ludhiana West,Sukhpal Nannu from Ferozepur City,Vijay Lakshmi Badhoo from Abohar and Raj Khurana from Rajpura. A new seat – Ludhiana West was the new seat added in this term.
State general secretary of BJP Kamal Sharma admitted of the falling graph as he said,In the 2007 elections our five MLAs were part of the assembly from Malwa and this time we have
only one. We will be sitting together to find out the reasons so as to improve further.
