The BJP candidate for the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat, Sanjay Tandon, is leaving no stone unturned to register a hat-trick for the party in the constituency. Tandon, who is set to file his nomination on Friday, is going all out with a havan (a ritual), a cultural performance, a roadshow, and a rally headed by president J P Nadda.

“Akshaya Tritiya is an auspicious day and that is why this day has been chosen since it will be the official beginning of the campaign,” a source close to Tandon said, equating ‘tritiya’ or the third lunar day to an “auspicious beginning” for the third term of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Tandon’s nomination day will begin with a havan at 8.30 am at Kamlam, the party headquarters in Sector 33, followed by a cultural performance. “The performance will display the confluence of cultures in Chandigarh,” the source said.

“After that, a roadshow will be held from Sector 33, followed by the nomination. Party workers have been asked to make the roadshow massive so that everyone knows that the BJP candidate is filing the nomination,” he added.

The day will culminate with a massive rally in Sector 27. BJP’s Devinder Singh Babla has been made in-charge of the rally which will be held in his wife councillor Harpreet Babla’s ward.

“We have been going door-to-door speaking about the rally. WhatsApp messages are also being shared on various groups. Cars have been arranged to get people to the rally. It is a matter of pride and responsibility for us to ensure the rally is a success,” the Bablas’ son Paramveer, who has been campaigning with the BJP youth wing, said.

Tandon is contesting against INDIA bloc candidate Manish Tewari. With sitting MP Kirron Kher winning Chandigarh in the last two Lok Sabha elections, the BJP is determined to retain the seat and has even invited senior party leaders, including Satya Pal Jain, Satinder Singh and Arun Sood, “to bless” Tandon on Friday.
