After the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on Friday rejected Opposition Congress’ demand for a ‘white paper’ on the fiscal health of the hill state, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Vidya Stokes called the ruling BJP party ‘shameless’ and its leaders ‘totally corrupt’.

“The BJP is a shameless party. Despite so much funding and liberal support (from the Centre),the BJP and the Chief Minister are spreading lies. In fact, the BJP government is squandering away most of the fund on unproductive works. They are unable to ensure prudent management of funds,” she alleged.

She said the Congress would soon expose the BJP’s lies on the so-called discrimination against the state. “The fact remains that the state government could not have completed its full tenure without the liberal support from the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre,” Stokes added.

Earlier, refusing to comply with the Congress’ demand of bringing out a ‘white paper’ on the state’s fiscal health,Dhumal had said,“We have tried to overcome the financial problems and managed to put the economy back on rails…this despite the Centre refusing to provide us bailout.”

Talking to the media at Raj Bhawan after Justice L S Panta took oath as Lokayukta,Stokes said that if the institution of the Lokayukta was made effective most of the BJP leaders and ministers woukld end up facing corruption cases. Asked how the Lokayukta could be strengthened, Stokes said,“Justice Panta should look into the issue and ensure that institution of Lokayukta must have its own independent investigating agency.”

While predicting that the Congress would return to power in the coming assembly elections, she ruled out possibility of opening doors to the BJP rebels who had quit the party on the corruption issue. “If need be,the party high command may take a decision on individual basis,” she added.

She expressed ignorance if the rebels are already having backing some congress leaders.
