Two days after an unidentified man robbed a woman at gunpoint in Sector 35,two bike-borne riders,one of whom was allegedly wearing a police uniform,robbed a person of Rs 8 lakh on the Sector 49-48 dividing road on Saturday. The incident took place barely a kilometer from the victims house in Sangam Enclave,Sector 48.
The incident took place at around 12 noon when Abhir Malhotra,a resident of Sector 48,was returning home in his Ford Figo after withdrawing Rs 8 lakh from Corporation Bank in Phase 10,Mohali. According to Baban,the victims brother,the money withdrawn was for his marriage.
The victim,who works as web designer in Sector 15,said that he had slowed down on the Sector 49 -48 dividing road in order to attend a phone call when two persons on a black motorcycle bearing no registration number threw a stone at his car. The person riding the bike was allegedly wearing a police uniform. He pointed a gun at him and took the bag filled with cash from the drivers window.
Abhir immediately contacted the police control room and also his family. Senior police officials including the DSP (South),DSP (Crime) and station house officer (SHO) of the Sector 31 police station rushed to the site,where all the details were collected from the spot. Abhir told Newsline,Two persons on a black pulsar were apparently following me. When I slowed down my car in order to attend a phone call,the persons threw a stone at my car. I stopped the car and before I could do anything,one of the persons was pointing a gun at me. He took out the car keys and took the bag containing the money from the window.
The two fled with the money and the car keys. Both the bike riders were wearing safety helmets to conceal their identity. Inspector Jaspal Singh,station house officer,Sector 31 police station,said that the cops have recorded the victims statement and a case of robbery has been registered.
