The Congress is the vikalp (viable alternative) rather than the vipaksh (Opposition) in Haryana, former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said at the Vipaksh Aapke Samaksh programme in Hisar, where he also laid down the agenda that party promises to implement if voted to power.
“First of all, we will discontinue the Parivar Pehchan Patras by ending the drama of family IDs, apart from discontinuing the concept of Meri Fasal Mera Byora (portal). When the Congress government is formed, the pension of the elderly will be Rs 6,000 per month. Every family will be given a gas cylinder for Rs 500. Plots of 100 yards will be given to SC and backward families,” he said Sunday.
“The creamy layer (income ceiling) of backward classes will be increased from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. The Vishwakarma Karigar Yojana will be implemented for BC-A category artisans to ensure that they get loans at an interest rate less than 5 per cent. We will give two lakh permanent jobs. We will implement the old pension scheme for employees. We will also give a minimum support price to farmers for their crops, apart from providing 300 units of free electricity for poor families,” he added.
The Leader of Opposition, who raised the slogan “BJP-JJP Bhagao, Congress Sarkar Lao”, expressed happiness at the size of the crowd in the programme. He said the Vipaksh Aapke Samaksh programme had already been held in nine Lok Sabha seats of the state, “but the crowd at Hisar has broken all previous records”.
“Now I have decided that by the end of this year, we will visit all the 90 Assembly constituencies of the state. Apart from this, the Jan Milan programme will continue in every district,” he said.
The event was held to mark the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi. Hooda remembered the former prime minister’s “contribution to the growth of India as a global IT super power”.
The event was attended by state Congress president Udai Bhan, more than two dozen MLAs and other leaders of the party.
