An emergency meeting of grocery retailers and senior functionaries of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM) was held to take stock of the decision of the Central government to allow FDI in retail. A resolution was passed condemning the announcement and it was decided that they would follow the directions of the All India Udyog Beopar Mandal for future course of action on the issue. Charanjiv Singh, president of CBM,said that the new step will ruin the already hard pressed large trading community that has been involved in retail for ages from small commercial establishments. Diwakar Sahoonja, chief patron of CBM appealed to the UT Administrator not to implement the same in Chandigarh since the retailers here were already suffering under unjust building by laws of penalties and sealing.
