Soon it may be proved how being positive can help one gain inner strength which can ultimately be the key to a healthy and successful life. For the researchers at the Department of Community Medicine,(PGIMER),have undertaken a two-year study funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) titled Salutogenesis Project in Colleges of Chandigarh: Promoting Health Through Strengthening the Self.
The Principal Investigator of the project is Dr Amarjeet Singh (Professor,Department of Community Medicine,Chandigarh),Dr Sonu Goel,Co Investigator/Project Coordinator (Assistant Professor,Dept Of Community Medicine).
Dr Amarjeet Singh,principal investigator of the study while told Chandigarh Newsline,Over the last 20-30 years a new field of health promotion has emerged i.e. salutogenesis. This concept deals with the study of the elements that help us cope with stress and other physical and psychological problems.
The study which started in October 2011 and will continue till 2013 is based on the salutogenic model,which is opposite of the pathogenic model. It improves our resilience. It seeks to develop a positive subjective state of health and quality of life, he added.
The study is being conducted by the department on 250 students in five colleges of Chandigarh.
