Bansal also spoke about a proposal to provide multi-modal service to people once the track to Katra was complete. Railways, the minister said would make all arrangements for passengers travelling to Vaishno Devi. He also stated that Anubhuti coaches would be attached to Shatabdi and Rajdhani trains.

‘Mohali railway station to get a facelift’

Chandigarh: Mohali Railway Station would be upgraded and facilities would be provided to ensure that it can handle the increasing footfall,Union Minister Pawan Bansal said while addressing a gathering at the Mohali Railway Station where he along with other Congress leaders had travelled to in the Chandigarh-Amritsar Superfast Express.

In the coming days, the station is said to witness more trains arriving and departing. However, there is a lack of basic facilities and connectivity.

MLA Balbir Sidhu said,“There isn’t a market or a canteen near the station from where the passengers can purchase eatables, while they wait for their train. I had, earlier, spoken with the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking authorities to ply buses on this route to connect the station to Chandigarh, following which two buses were started. However, the services have been discontinued,” Sidhu said. He added that the Mohali Railway Station was closer to the residents of Chandigarh from Sectors 31 to 48. People would prefer to come here if better facilities are provided. The traffic at Chandigarh Railway Station would also reduce.

Bansal assured that the station would be upgraded. He said,“The station will be inspected and facilities like a waiting hall and canteen will be provided. In the coming months, more trains will pass through the station and footfall is expected to increase. I will try to improve the connectivity of the station to Chandigarh,” he added.
