Bajaj gets life term

A local court on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to 32-year-old Minkal Bajaj for allegedly murdering a former Youth Akali Dal president.

A local court on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to 32-year-old Minkal Bajaj for allegedly murdering a former Youth Akali Dal (YAD) president. The court has also slapped Rs 25,000 fine on Bajaj. Tripatdeep Singh Sekhon,alias Tippa,(40),the former president of the YAD’s Mukstar (urban) unit was shot to death on July 13,2010.

The Chandigarh Police had found him fatally wounded behind showrooms next to Madhya Marg in Sector 9. Police said Tripatdeep had been killed as he allegedly circulated an obscene MMS of Bajaj’s sister in February 2010.

The Punjab Police had booked Tripatdeep in the case but sources said his name was dropped from the FIR due to political pressure.

After the MMS incident,police said,Bajaj’s sister’s husband left her,following which,she came to stay with the accused.

Minkal Bajaj,had reportedly been aggrieved and had decided to eliminate him. He asked the victim to meet him in Sector 9 on the pretext of executing a property deal. He then allegedly shot the former YAD president. Police said that Bajaj then fled the city and had been on the run in Delhi,Ganganagar and Maharashtra. On July 29,2010,police finally arrested Balwinder Singh,alias Minkel Bajaj.
