A 50-year-old man driving a horse cart was killed when a bus — belonging to Dabwali Transport owned by the ruling Badal family — hit him at Kabarwala village in Muktsar district Tuesday. In another accident later in the day, a bus of New Deep Transport owned by SAD leader Dimpy Dhillon crushed a 30-year-old man in Bathinda. An FIR on charges of negligent driving has been lodged in the matter.
Roshan, who worked in a brick kiln, was on his way to Sarawan Bodla village when the accident happened on Abohar-Malaut road. He died on his way to a private hospital in Bathinda. The driver of the bus, Gurpreet Singh, fled from the spot.
Relatives of Roshan, who is survived by two daughters and two sons, have demanded financial assistance and job for one of his family members.
Meanwhile, a gardener on contract at National Fertilizer Limited (NFL), Rem Het, was killed on the spot after a bus of New Deep Transport hit his bicycle on the Bathinda-Goniana road. The accident happened near NFL’s gate number 1.
Angry commuters stopped the bus and broke its windowpanes. The driver, however, managed to escape.
Members of NGO Naujawan Welfare Society also reached the spot. Sonu Maheshwari, one of the members, said, “We saw protesters damaging the bus and informed the police. We later took the body to Civil Hospital, Bathinda.”
SP (City) Desraj reached the spot and pacified the protesters.
This is the fourth accident by the buses of New Deep Transport company. A 25-year-old youth was killed in Kauni village last week. Last December, two minor girls were crushed to death by the transport company’s bus at Channu village in Lambi and Ferozepur, respectively.
