Come January 8,and Punjabi cinema will see its first release of the new year. The film is Mitti, and it stars Kashish Dhanoa and Lakhwinder Singh Kandola,in the lead. As the actors made a stop at La Opulence unisex salon in Sector 22-C today, and got a new look,we caught up for a quick Q&A. “Well,we are playing lovers in the film,” coos Kashish, excited about her role, and the fact that it’s Mika Singh’s Punjabi debut too. “I am quite hopeful of getting a good response from Punjabi cinema lovers. This film will surely prove to be a mass entertainer,as it depicts Punjab and its problems in a new perspective,” she says. Zoom in on Lakhwinder, and he already has a rich resume to show off. Post his MA,the lad moved back to village and did farming. “But the love for acting got me back, and I bagged a part in ‘Shaka Laka Boom Boom’ of UTV in 2005. Apart from music videos,I acted in MTV’s Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi,English film ‘Zoop in India’ and ‘Take Care’ of National School of Drama,” like Mika,Mitti too will be Lakhwinder’s first Punjabi film.

Mitti,as the title suggests,is all about our land. It’s the story Punjabi youth, politics, farmers, love and friendship. “It’s about farmers and young blood who are busy with their own activities and have no mission in life. Some of them want to become singers, some want to go to foreign lands, some just want to make money no matter how they make it,ruining their lives with drugs,” Lakhwinder gives a little synopsis about the film, and the four guys -Rabbi Sidhu,Gaazi Dhillon,Laali Brar and Tunda, how they work for a corrupt politician till they realise the consequences. And yes, there’s a love triangle too! In theatres on January 8.
