The Mohali police have failed to identify the third suspect in the case of murder of an auto union leader in Phase XI on Saturday, while the two people who were arrested were remanded in one more day of police custody by a local court.
The key accused, Savinder Singh alias ‘Bitta’, reportedly told the police that he was not accompanied by anyone when he opened fire at his professional rival Kuldeep Singh, the Phase XI area president of Mohali auto union.

Kuldeep was shot dead by Bitta on Saturday night following an altercation between the two regarding the autorickshaws running in the area. Bitta had recently bought six new autorickshaws and had asked Kuldeep to register them in his union. Both of them were at loggerheads with each other as Kuldeep and the other union members alleged that Bitta did not follow rules while picking up passengers. The police arrested Bitta and his alleged accomplice Lakhvir Singh, while another accomplice managed to run away while he was pulled out of the police vehicle and beaten up by the public.
“Why have the police failed to trace the third person? He was the one who instigated the quarrel and told Bitta about the whereabouts of Kuldeep. He was equally responsible for the murder,” said Kuldeep’s friend Pal Singh. Meanwhile, the police said that Bitta and Lakhvir denied the involvement of a third person.
