At 92.92%,Kapurthala turnout is highest

Kapurthala constituency of Kapurthala district has witnessed the highest voter turnout of 92.92 per cent in the January 30 Assembly polls.

Kapurthala constituency of Kapurthala district has witnessed the highest voter turnout of 92.92 per cent in the January 30 Assembly polls. Guru Har Sahai constituency in Ferozepur district bagged the second position in the list with 89.89 per cent voter turnout.

Kapurthala constituency has total 1,21,375 voters — 62,760 women and 58,615 men. AMong this,54,983 women and 57,800 men voted on Monday. In all,a total of 93.80 per cent women and 92.10 per cent men have exercised their franchise.

In 2007,when Congress candidate Rajbans Kaur had won from here against SAD’s former minister Raghbir Singh,the voter turnout was 78 per cent.

This time,Congress’ candidate and former MP Rana Gurjit Singh is contesting against SAD’s sitting MLA from Adampur,Sarabjit Singh Makkar. Following delimitation,Adampur has become a reserved constituency. Also,PPP’s Raghbir Singh — a former SAD minister — is contesting from here.
