With barely a week left for the Municipal Corporation elections,campaigning picked up pace in all wards of the city. From early morning till late at night,candidates are addressing gatherings and meeting residents of their wards. To add zing to the campaign,actors and senior leaders have been roped in to seek votes.
Actor and comedian Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi sought votes on Sunday for Devinder Singh Babla,Congress candidate from ward 18. He had the gathering in splits with his jokes. A public meeting was held at Sector 30 that was also attended by Union Minister Pawan Bansal.
BJP candidate from ward 8 Arun Sood continued with his door-to-door campaign. He held two corner meetings in Sector 37 and 38 that were attended by actor Kirron Kher as well as senior leaders of the party.
The saffron partys candidate from ward 11 Anil Dubey held a public meeting at Ramlila ground in Sector 56 that was attended by senior leader Satya Pal Jain. In ward 13,Ram Lal held a number of meetings with area residents. Satinder Singh in ward 18 held a padyatra.
BJP candidates from ward 21 and 23 Heera Negi and Rajkumari Mishra,respectively interacted with the residents and urged them to vote in their favour. Rajinder Kaur Rattu from ward 24,meanwhile held a corner meeting at Mauli Jagran.
Union Minister Pawan Bansal addressed meetings in a number of wards seeking votes for the Congress candidates. Addressing a gathering in Sector 20 he said that sufficient funds will be diverted to the area for making it a model ward. A public meeting was also addressed by Bansal at Sector 46 for candidate Indu Singla. Mayor Ravinder Pal Singh was also present. Another meeting was in ward 4 where Poonam Sharma is contesting.
Resident Welfare Association,Sector 40-A organised a meeting to highlight the current problems and issues of the area. President of CTCC B B Bahl and candidate from the area Gurbax Rawat were present. Congress candidate from ward 1 Raj Bala Malik held a door-to-door campaign. While Jatinder Bhatia in ward 22 met the residents in Sectors 47 and 48.
The election manifesto of BSP candidate S M Khan was released by National General Secretary of the party,Narender Kashyap. Khan said that actor Shakti Kapoor is likely to campaign for him.
