Arun stuns top seed Harsheel

The shuttler from Kerala beat Air India’s Harsheel Dani to enter the boys U-19 final.

Kearala’s Arun George pulled off the biggest upset in boys U-19 semi-final as he toppled top seed Harsheel Dani of Air India to reach the boys U-19 singles final of the 38th Junior Nationals badminton championship at the Panjab University Gymnasium Hall on Wednesday. Arun was trailing Dani by one game but bounced back to cause a major upset in the tournament.

Arun lost the first game 17-21 but no before showing his fighting spirit. He made a superb comeback into the match and his long rally and a spectacular half smashes helped Arun take the second game 21-16.

Arun,high on cinfidence,showed exquisite skills and kept his nerves to win the third game 25-23 to win the semi-final match.

Arun had earlier ousted tenth seed Arunachalle Talar Laa 21-16 21-18 in just over half an hour.

In quarter-final matches,Arshalan Naqvi of Uttar Pradesh defeated 11th seed Shyam Prasad of Kerala 21-19 21-15 and

Aditya Joshi beat Rahul Yadav C of Andhra Pradesh 22-20,14-21,21-14 in 59 minutes.

Top seeded Karishma Wadkar of Maharashtra and second seed Ruthvika Shivani G. of Andhra Pradesh will fight it out between them for the girls Under-17 title. In semi-final matches,Karisha defeated eight seed Shikha Gautam from Karnataka 21-11,22-20 and second seed Ruthvika Shivani outsted Mrunmayi Saoji of Maharashtra 21-7 21-13.

The boys under-17 singles final will be an all-Karnatala affair as top seed Daniel Farid will take on ninth seed Sankeerth B. R. Daniel overcame a stiff resistance from sixth seed Kanishq M. from Andhra Pradesh and beat him 21-19 18-21 21-18 while Sankeerth upset third seed Chirag Sen of Air India 14-21 21-15 21-12 .
