Riding on a three-wicket haul by Arpit (3 for 18) and superb unbeaten knock from Satyam Sharma (65 not out),Saupin’s School registered a comfortable 95-run win over Guru Nanak Public School,Sector 36,as they entered the semi-finals of the UT Inter-School U-14 boys Cricket Tournament being organised by UT Education Department on Friday.

Batting first,Saupin’s School posted a total of 167 for 3 in the allotted 20 overs. Satyam was the top scorer for the team as he played an unbeaten knock of 65 runs off 50 balls. Satyam smashed eight boundaries during his stay at the crease. Manav played an important knock of 43 runs while Atul contributed 17 runs,for Saupin’s. Atul smashed eight boundaries during his knock. For Guru Nanak Public School-36,Divyansh claimed two wickets for 48 runs while Harnoor grabbed one wicket for 32 runs. In reply,Guru Nanak Public School-36 were restricted to 72 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. Bheem was the top scorer for the team with 24 runs while Yuvraj smashed 22 runs. For the winning team,Arpit claimed three wickets for 18 runs while Prabhjeet Singh picked up one wicket for just one run.

Protest hits match

Meanwhile,in the boys’ U-14 UT Inter-School Cricket Tournament,the match between Strawberry World School and St Joseph School could not be finished due to protest carried out by the Strawberry World School team. Batting first,St Joseph School posted 100 runs in 20 overs. Chasing the target,Strawberry World School team were 85 for 1 in 16.1 overs when their batsman Chirag Dhindsa was adjudged lbw by the umpire.

The Strawberry World School coach protested against the lbw decision ,following which the match was stopped for some time. Later on,due to the intervention of some officials,the match restarted before Strawberry World School coach once protested again on another decision taken by the umpire. The DPI (Schools) has formed a committee to look into the matter. “We received a complaint from Strawberry World School coach and we have forwarded the matter to the Education Department. It’s up to them to take the decision about the match,” said Kapil,one of the observers.

Puneet stars in Karnal victory

Chandigarh: A superb bowling peformance by Puneet (6 for 41) enabled Karnal to complete a 28-run win over Chandigarh in a league match of the Inter-District U-25 Cricket Tournament,being organised by Haryana Cricket Association,on Friday. Karnal batted first and posted 256 for 8 in 40 overs. Anil Kumar top scored with 71 runs while Satyam contributed 53 runs. For Chandigarh,Sandeep Nhattacharya claimed four wickets for 50 runs while Karan bagged two wickets. In reply,Chandigarh were restricted to 228 runs in 40 overs. Anupan Gambhir remained unbeaten on 104 runs. For the winning team,Puneet claimed six wickets for 41 runs while Rahul Kumar took two wickets for 43 runs.

Gaurav helps Mt Carmel win

Chandigarh : Gaurav came up with a splendid bowling performance (5 for 5) to guide Mount Carmel School to an emphatic 120-run win over Vivek High School in a league match of the Fourth U-14 Vivek Trophy Cricket Tournament played at Vivek High School on Friday. Batting first,Mount Carmel School posted 228 for 4 in 20 overs. Prabhjeet played a blazing knock of 75 runs. In reply,Vivek High School were bundled out for 108 runs in 18.2 overs. Adeshwar top scored with 39 runs. For the winning team,Gaurav claimed five wickets for five runs while Dhananjay picked up two wickets for nine runs.

Carrom tourney from today

Chandigarh : The 16th edition of the St Stephen’s Carrom Ranking Tournament will begin today at St Stephen’s School,Sector 45. The tournament is being organised under the aegis of Chandigarh Carrom Association and will see the participation of a total of 248 players including 48 female players. A total of six events in the men’s,women’s,junior singles (boys and girls),sub-junior singles (boys and girls) will be played in the championship.
