AroundTown: Narcotics worth Rs 90,000 seized; two arrested

The Crime Branch of Chandigarh Police has seized narcotics worth Rs 90,000 and arrested two persons in two separate cases.

CHANDIGARH: The Crime Branch of Chandigarh Police has seized narcotics worth Rs 90,000 and arrested two persons in two separate cases. In the first case Mogal Das (22),was arrested for allegedly being in possession of one kilo of Charas worth Rs 70,000. In the second case,police arrested Ranjit Singh Sahha (27) for allegedly possessing four kilos of Ganja worth Rs 20,000. Both the accused are originally from Bihar and used to supply drugs to Chandigarh and it’s suburbs. Both the accused have been remanded to judicial custody.

Clerk arrested for accepting bribe

Ambala: A sub-tehsil registration clerk from Kalayat was arrested by the State Vigilance Bureau (SVB) team while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a farmer on Monday. Bajinder Singh,a resident of Kurara village,had complained to the Bureau that the naib tehsildar Narinder Singh Rana and his registration clerk Bansidhar had demanded a bribe for registration of his agricultural land. An SVB team headed by Inspector Ranbir Singh raided the sub tehsil office from where Bansidhar was arrested. The naib tehsildar is absconding.

Two women killed in separate accidents

AMBALA: Two women were killed in separate road accidents in Ambala in the past 24 hours. In the first accident at Ambala-Hissar road,a woman pedestrian was run over by a speeding truck at Manav Chowk. The truck driver is absconding. The second incident occurred at Kalka Chowk NH-1,eyewitnesses alleged that an elderly woman was hit by an unidentified vehicle killing her on the spot. Both women are yet to be identified.

Four cases of vehicle theft reported

CHANDIGARH: Four cases of vehicle theft were reported in various sectors of the city. Three of the four incidents took place on June 26 but cases were registered by the police on Sunday. Manjit Singh,a Zirakpur resident,reported that his motorcycle was stolen from Sector 15,Chandigarh,on June 26. On the same day,Manoj Kumar,a resident of Sector 27 reported the someone had stolen his Pulsar motorbike. Lovleen Kaur,a resident of Sector 44 reported that her car was also stolen from her residence on June 26. In the fourth case Parkash Verma,a resident of Faidan village,reported that his three-wheeler was stolen from his house on June 30. FIRs have been lodged in all the cases,however,no arrests have been made so far.

Jewellery worth lakhs stolen

PANCHKULA: Police have initiated investigations in a robbery reported early on Monday morning from Sector 16,Panchkula. The household staff,washerman and milk vendor have been interrogated. The family had gone out for a wedding on Sunday night and had returned early Monday morning to find that the locks were broken and gold and silver jewellery worth lakhs had been stolen. A case was registered at Sector 17 police station.

President Patil

CHANDIGARH: Children from all over India,between the ages 7 and 12,met President Pratibha Patil at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi,last week. SIP Academy India,a children skill development organisation,set up the meeting. The children also showcased their listening and memory skills in addition to concentration and mental calculative skills to the President. The Academy,with over 600 centres,runs programmes for mental skill development of children aged 5 to 12.
