CHANDIGARH: A fire broke out in a readymade garments showroom in Sector 17 early in the morning on Friday. No one was injured in the fire,but the fire fighters had to rescue a person who was stuck on the first floor of the building due to the excessive smoke. The fire reportedly broke out due to a short circuit in the airconditioner installed on the mezzanine floor of Arrow showroom. However,the exact cause is yet to be ascertained. The fire destroyed a part of the mezzanine floor which housed the womens section.

CHANDIGARH: The police arrested two more juveniles who have been accused of sodomising an eight-year-old boy on the Panjab University campus a few days back. On Friday,police had arrested six accused,including five minors,in the same case after a Panjab University employee,lodged a complaint at the Sector 11 police station alleging that the accused had sodomised his son and made an MMS. Meanwhile,Vijay,the only adult of the eight accused,was produced in a local court on Friday and remanded in one-day police custody. All the minors have been sent to a juvenile home.
CHANDIGARH: Complainant Shephli Sood alleged that two unidentified motorcyclists sped away after snatching her purse containing Rs 15,000 and two ATM cards from near Judicial Academy,Sector 43. Police have registered a case.
CHANDIGARH: A 26-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself at his house in Sector 45. The deceased has been identified as Amanpreet,a student of BA.
