Kulbir Singh,CRPF cadre officer of 1976 batch,took over charge of Inspector General of Police,North West Sector,CRPF,on Monday. Prior to his present posting,Singh was serving at Jammu,where he was instrumental in revamping security of Mata Vaishno Devi shrine and planning of Amarnath Yatra. Apart from serving in various parts of the country affected by insurgency and terrorism,Singh has remained on deputation with the Punjab Police and served as Superintendent of Police (operations),Kapurthala,during the militancy days. He also commanded a Rapid Action Force Battalion deployed in highly communal areas of Uttar Pradesh. He has been awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service,three special Duty Medals and Antrik Seva Suraksha Medal.

Man ends life
in Bapu Dham

CHANDIGARH: A man in his 30s committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his house in Bapu Dham,Sector 26,on Monday. The victim has been identified as Sunil. He was employed with a soft drink distributor in Zirakpur. According to police,Sunil was staying alone in his house. His body was found hanging in his room by his relative who had come to meet him. She had found the room bolted from inside,and when she peeped from the window,she saw Sunil’s body hanging. The reason for the suicide was yet to be established.

Water wastage: 90 get notices on second day

CHANDIGARH: The Municipal Corporation on Monday served notices on 90 city residents for wasting water on the second day of the drive. On Sunday,61 notices were served by the 14 teams of the MC constituted for the purpose. Watering of lawns,washing cars and courtyards is banned in the city during summer.
